Martin Mlyn\u00e1r saw the rise and fall of the tech bubble first hand, so don\u2019t expect a glowing reputation to dazzle him. The Corestone founder tells Citywire’s Atholl Simpson why complacency will be investors\u2019 downfall and why he demands unconditional transparency.
A company\u2019s reputation exerts a powerful influence over investors but for Martin Mlyn\u00e1r of Corestone Investment Managers, fund selection is not about picking the most highly polished exterior \u2013 it\u2019s what\u2019s inside that counts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mlyn\u00e1r, who runs more than $17 billion in assets on behalf of a number of institutional clients, believes reputation carries too much weight within his industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018There are too many selectors who go into a beautiful office, establish there is a name on the building, that a lot of people work there and everybody has a chair and a computer, but very often they do not connect the dots with what these people are doing,\u2019 he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018So what we are trying to do is verify what is actually happening.\u2019 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As CEO of the multi-manager firm, the Switzerland-based institutional selector says this kind of attention to detail is an essential attribute in his profession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
