About the Company

Corestone Investment Managers AG is an independent, employee-owned, asset management company, managing multi-asset, multi-manager portfolios for a wide range of institutional clients such as pension funds, insurance companies, private banks, endowments and family offices.

With over a decade in the current set up and, on average, 20 years of experience in the industry, we are committed to our business. Over time, we have developed a reputation for high quality output and outstanding results, both in terms of performance and client satisfaction.

It is our values and hard work that set us apart. Open architecture is the foundation of Corestone’s approach to multi-manager portfolio implementation. Corestone’s portfolio construction process, backed by our proprietary analytical toolkit, is differentiating in the industry, providing our clients with robust performance throughout the business cycle and full transparency on all levels.

Founded in 2007, Corestone Investment Managers is based in Zug, Switzerland, with invested assets totaling over EUR 31 billion (CHF 36 billion) as of September 2018.

Corestone is engaged in a number of local projects that help improve the quality of living in the area of Zug. This includes sponsoring  local ski and rowing clubs, and supporting the Swiss initiative WaldPfad.

Our Team

Corestone’s team of investment professionals is focused on delivering high quality manager research & selection and portfolio construction & management. We employ experienced professionals with diverse academic backgrounds, from economists to physicists and MBAs.

The senior team of partners and principals have been working together for more than 10 years and combines the knowledge and global experience of industry experts, financial managers, operations, risk and IT professionals.

Board of Directors and Executive Management of the Firm

Martin is Chief Executive Officer and a Co-Founder of the Firm. He began his career at Barings in London, continuing at ECM of ING Barings focusing on telecom and cable sector in The Netherlands. In 2002, he became head of Corporate Development at IMC. With IMC, he co-founded Altis Investment Management AG in Zug, where he was responsible as managing director for building the institutional business in Europe.

Cian is Chief Operating Officer and a Co-Founder of the Firm. Previously he was Director of Operations and Client Service at Altis Investment Management. Prior to that, he was Chief Administrative Officer at Morgan Stanley Private Client Group in Frankfurt.

Sadruddin is Chief Technology Officer and a Co-Founder of the Firm. Previously he was Director of Quantitative Analysis at Altis Investment Management. Prior to that, he was the chief architect of a proprietary investment platform at MJT in Geneva. A graduate in Theoretical Physics from the EPFL in Lausanne, he holds a Masters in Financial Engineering from the Ecole Polytechnique in Paris.

Pieter has a background in quantitative finance and trading. In 1998, he started a Firm specializing in automated trading using artificial intelligence. This resulted in a successful joint venture with IMC during which the scope of the trading system was rolled out globally. In 2005 he incorporated Source Capital AG, a Swiss based proprietary trading entity that would focus on the statistical arbitrage and high frequency trading space. In the decade that followed, it became an established player with offices in Zug, London and Amsterdam. In 2015 Pieter decided to leave the trading world and focus on more philanthropic projects. Besides this, he acts as an informal investor in a variety of companies. Pieter graduated in Theoretical Physics and holds a PhD in Financial Economics.

Joost has worked in the financial industry for more than 30 years. Currently he serves on the advisory and supervisory boards of several pension funds. He is a member of advisory investment committee of a single family office. Until the end of 2009, he was Managing Director Private Banking at Van Lanschot Bankiers in the Netherlands. Prior to that he was on the Management Board of IMC in Amsterdam, where he was instrumental in setting up client focused businesses, including Bank Oyens & Van Eeghen, Cardano Risk Management and Altis Investment Management. Before IMC, Joost was Managing Director Equity Capital Markets for ING Barings and Portfolio Manager US Equities at Nationale-Nederlanden Investment Management.


Robert is Co-Head of Research and a member of the Investment Committee. Previously he was Senior Investment Analyst at IOOF Limited in Australia. Prior to that he was a Company Analyst at IBISWorld Business Research in Australia. He gained a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. He subsequently gained a Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance from the Financial Services Institute of Australasia.

Paul van Gent is Head of Impact Investing and Special Projects at Corestone and a member of the Investment Committee. Previously, Paul was responsible for Manager Selection at PME, the Dutch industry-wide pension fund for the metal industry, managing over EUR 21 billion globally. Prior to joining PME, he was head of Investment Consulting and responsible for selecting external asset managers for the IBM pension funds in the EMEA region. Paul graduated from the Eindhoven University of Technology in Industrial Engineering and Management Science and is a member of the investment committee of the IBM Nederland pension fund.

Cord heads up the Asset Allocation team and is a member of the Investment Committee. He manages and further develops client specific multi-asset class portfolios for the company and provides strategic asset allocation views. Prior to that, Cord worked for Suva, the Swiss National Accident Insurance Institution in various functions over time, as Lead Economist, Portfolio Manager for the Systematic TAA and Portfolio Manager for external manager selection for traditional asset classes. He holds a PhD in economics from the University of Heidelberg as well as two Master degrees in economics from the University of Heidelberg as well as the University of Delaware.

Robert is responsible developing the analytical and client delivery capabilities of Corestone. He was previously with Altis Investment Management as the Head of Quantitative R&D. Robert joined the industry in 2006 at IMC Trading Amsterdam where he helped to develop the market making technology of the company. He holds a PhD in Artificial Intelligence, and a master’s degree in Control Engineering.

Jens is Director of Investment Solutions, managing international clients’ portfolios since 2010 and working previously on the manager selection team as Senior Analyst. Before joining Corestone in 2007, he was working for six years as an Investment Consultant for Dr. Dr. Heissmann in Germany. Jens is a CFA charterholder and Financial Risk Manager. He holds two master’s degrees in Economics from German and American universities.

Marco is Co-Head of Research and a member of the Investment Committee. Previously he was Senior Analyst at Theta Capital Management, a fund of hedge fund manager, in the Netherlands. Prior to that he was a (senior) analyst at Mn Services, a fiduciary manager in the Netherlands. Marco graduated from Erasmus University in Rotterdam where he studied Financial Economics.

Independent Advisory Committee

The function of the Independent Advisory Committee (IAC) is to provide an independent source of views on business, industry & strategic topics relevant to the business & corporate development of the firm.

The IAC meets quarterly with the executive management and senior team members to broadly assess developments in and around business trends and evaluate their potential impact on the Firm’s focus and strategy over the medium and the long term. The IAC also challenges the team by asking questions, playing devil’s advocate and suggesting areas that could be further developed to better serve clients. 

The IAC is composed of both internal and external members. External members are nominated to one-year terms.

External members

Karin van Baardwijk is currently COO and member of the Executive Committee of Robeco.
She has been Chief IT Officer and Head of Global Information Services at Robeco since May 2014. As of 2016 she is also responsible for the back office operations. Previously, she headed the Operational Risk Management department, focusing on internal control for the IT systems and business processes. Karin van Baardwijk graduated from the University of Utrecht and holds a Master’s degree in Business Economics and a Master’s degree in Corporate Law.

Martin has been involved with Corestone Investment Managers AG as independent advisor since Corestone’s incorporation. His core capabilities include strategy, corporate development and structured finance.
Since 2018 Martin Pereboom is co-owner and managing director of Koninklijke Utermöhlen NV (Royal Utermöhlen), a company active in first aid solutions and specific wound and skin care products. Prior to his current role at Royal Utermöhlen Martin led the Capital Markets activities of Intertrust NV in Amsterdam before which he was head of the Integration Management Office for the integration of ATC and Intertrust. Before he joined ATC in 2011, Martin has been Company Secretary and Head of Corporate Responsibility at COFRA Holding AG, based in Zug, Switzerland. From 2001 to 2006, Martin was Associate Director in the Financing group at KPMG Corporate Finance in the Netherlands. He started his career in investment banking and structured investments as Senior Investment Manager of the Structured Finance Fund at ABP Investments and Vice President in the mortgage-backed assets group at NIBC.

John is a corporate financier and investment adviser. He was a director and audit chair of Investment Kinnevik, AB and Tele2 AB from 2003 to 2018; Deputy Chair of the Council of Cambridge University, 2010-2018; Chair of Ludgate and Valiance Investment Funds 2007-2018; he served as a director of industrial companies, Questair, Inc and TT electronics, plc 2003-17; also Chair of The Economy Bank, NV 2004-17. He is currently a member of the investment committees of a number of endowments and trusts. He has more than 30 years experience in global financial services and held leadership positions at Barings, Lazard and ABN AMRO. He previously served in HM Diplomatic Service and was educated at Cambridge and Princeton Universities.

Investment Committee

The Investment Committee (IC) is the body responsible for investment decisions. It meets on an regular basis to debate and decide on all investment-related decisions such as manager approvals and terminations, as well as asset allocation. The permanent IC consists of the key senior investment employees of the Firm.
